2009 Mercedes-Benz M-Class W164 4 Matic 3.5L V6 petrol from North America

Summary:

Solid feel, comfortable ride

Faults:

So far nothing.

General Comments:

Well I finally got rid of my 07 Cadillac SRX at 205,000km, which was the worst vehicle I have ever owned. See my review.

I think I got a good deal on my W164 from an Infiniti dealer who was the only one that would give me a fair value for my SRX.

I'm getting 11,5 L/100km compared to 13,5 on my SRX. The ride is as comfortable, but the ML feels much more solid.

My local independent MB specialist gave me two thumbs up on the ML for the following reasons. Petrol engine, fewer issues compared to the Bluetec. My ML has regular shocks, not the more troublesome air shocks. Also, according to him, the 09 had all the bugs worked out by Mercedes.

I thought I had a wheel bearing problem, but turns out my tires are scuffed.

Winter has now arrived, so I'll post an update in the spring. Drive safely.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

UPDATE: 14-11-2017

1 - Check engine light with code P0128 = Replace thermostat, parts and labour = 500$ CAN.

2 - Intake manifold lever. The intake manifold has to be removed to replace the broken plastic lever with an aftermarket aluminum unit. MB does not have a part number for the lever, so for them, it's a complete manifold. 10 hours labour! Stay tuned...

Would love to hear the continuation to this.

I left it as it is. After a bit of research on the web, I found that the flap stay closed until around 3500 RPM, then they slowly open. Well, since I have enough grey hairs, I drive my ML on the gentle side (my 328ic is for my spirited driving) so, I am having no problems with the flaps set on closed. I am at 150,000km and all is good. Decent fuel economy and a pleasant ride. I do have to replace a broken rear coil spring, but after two winters, nothing to really complain about. Well, except for the air conditioning, which is so-so, but I can live with it. A few other problems that are typical of the ML, but nothing is perfect, and the repair costs are fair for a german made in the USA SUV. Wouldn't recommend a new one, but as a used SUV, I like my ML.
