2007 Ford Mondeo Ghia 2.0 TDCi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent value

Faults:

Clutch replaced (expensive).

Surprisingly little else despite the car having missing history, but it has clearly had a lot of work already done to it.

General Comments:

Took a chance on this high mileage Mondeo last year. Apart from that clutch replacement, the car has been great. For the price I paid (only £995 with a new MOT!), if I get another year from it I certainly have won out this deal!

Very smooth to drive despite the mileage and age of the car. First of the newer mark IV shape for 2007 model year. Great looking car in black, nice wheels too. Not a mark on it. Clearly a well looked after car despite the service history being missing. Though I recommend generally no one ever buys a car without history!

2.0 TDCi performs just fine while doing about 41 - 45 mpg on average on diesel. The car is good to drive, sharp handling and comfy seats.

Ghia model is a high spec, electric everything, very nice. "Wood" effect on the dash is a bit plastic and fake looking though. Otherwise a very nicely designed interior.

The car is quiet on the move and the boot space is huge. Overall for the price I paid it has been great! Hope to keep it another year and pass the 200,000 mile mark!

2007 Ford Mondeo Zetec 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Henry would be proud of this one

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

The 1.6 Ti-vct Yamaha, Ford engine is a gem. Quiet, all the power you will need, and frugal for a petrol.

Came from a 5 Series BMW to this, and I honestly feel the Ford is nicer to drive.

2007 Ford Mondeo Ghia 2.0 TDCi turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

Bonnet release cable failed, leaving the bonnet unlockable, and had to be replaced.

Blows a lot of brake light bulbs.

General Comments:

The car has strong performance, and is incredibly comfortable and spacious.

Build is very good.

I get 37 MPG average around town, and up to 55 on a run, which I am pleased with.

It is seriously practical with a massive boot.

It is a bit big for most car parks... however mine does have parking sensors.

I have covered 31,000 miles in two years, and so far it has been very reliable.

2007 Ford Mondeo Ghia 2.0 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Comfortable, quick and roomy

Faults:

Leaking N/S/R brake caliper.

Air con re-gas.

General Comments:

Ex lease car with full Ford history; paid 5000 pounds for it.

Very powerful engine; told by the dealer it's the Peugeot HDI engine.

Very roomy and comfortable.

Even fully loaded for work, it still averages 48 MPG. Seems very well built; no rattles, even with this mileage.

Very good stereo.

I like it very much.

Have to see if it last as well as my Citroen Picasso diesel, which did 250000 miles without any major problem.

2007 Ford Mondeo Zetec TDCi 140 5-dr 2.0 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

TOO BIG!

Faults:

Aircon compressor failed.

General Comments:

Great all round car.

Although mine was the Zetec version, so not over endowed with kit, it still covered all the bases I wanted with cruise, ESP, iPod compatible stereo, Bluetooth etc.

I needed a car with a large boot, as we now have a Dalmatian and a Great Dane, and these mk4 Mondeos have enormous boots (once it swallowed a large chest of draws no problem, wouldn't fit in the wife's Octavia!).

These Mondeos seem really good value, especially compared to cars like the Vauxhall Insignia etc, which they're better than from what I've read.

I got mine for only £4400 as an ex-lease 1 owner car with a full service history and 12 months MOT. I was wary about such high mileage, but it drove fantastically, had a very strong engine, which felt quicker than the figures suggest, and was exceptionally refined; would cruise at 100 mph no problem.

The handling was a bit barge like, as it's such a big car, but very positive steering and brilliant grip (after I replaced the crap Chinese tyres on it for Vredesteins).

It cost me a bit to get sorted once bought however. It needed a new A/C compressor at £300, and also new front discs and pads at £225 (the front discs are bloody big).

Main issue with this car however is, it's too BIG.

I moved work location, and the spaces are very tight, and these Mondeos are too wide; at 1886mm in width (minus the mirrors), they're actually wider than a Merc S Class, which begs the question, why are car makers making cars so wide in particular these days, and do they think of the average parking space size?

I guess not, as everything these days seems really wide; just compare a new Focus to a MK1 Focus, or this Mondeo to a Mk1 Mondeo, and you'll see what I mean.

The answer was the last gen Toyota Avensis (now I own one); a lot narrower and still a big boot, but not as good to drive unfortunately.

Glad you generally like the car. Remember, this 2007 Mondeo is even good enough for James Bond...
