2006 Citroen C4 Coupe VTS 2.0L HDI from UK and Ireland

Summary:

200,000 miles and still fantastic, says it all

Faults:

Dual mass flywheel at 50,000 miles, then again at 110,000 miles.

General Comments:

Loved owning this car, it's now done almost 200,000 miles; 120,000 miles of these as my driving instructor car.

It's comfortable, reliable, very, very economical, it still does over 55 MPG at 190,000 miles and uses no oil between 20,000 mile services.

Just thought I'd post this review to balance all the negative reviews I've read.

They are as decent as any car if looked after. The clutch/DMF failing is also not exclusive to this car - all modern diesels have this problem.

2006 Citroen C4 HDi 1.6 turbo diesel from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Enough room, enough space, enough power, enough economy, not enough quality control in the building

Faults:

The vehicle had been leaking fuel from the injectors onto the engine block since new. I have the best Citroen mechanic in the region, who immediately diagnosed the cause of the persistent fuel smell in the cabin was the injector fuel leak. A solid block of carbon had built up around one of the injectors. A harsh solvent and days later the only repair was to clean the top of the cylinders and tighten the injector. The cause was basically poor build quality control.

The mechanism to replace the bulbs is simple and simply diabolical. The instruction manual is rubbish. Only YouTube helped. The short story is you need to perform a squeeze operation whilst looking through a little hole using a mirror. The designer should be sent back to school. Best option is to drive straight to your Citroen mechanic and have them do the repair.

Driver's seat has a small tear, and padding is coming out in small bits.

Anti-pollution device malfunctions under hard acceleration and then limits your revs to 2000 for a while. The issue is avoided if you drive very sedately all the time and/or accelerate smoothly. No one has been able to give a good diagnosis so far.

General Comments:

I actually really like the Citroen C4 HDi. It is very economical. On highways driving we have travelled 1200kms on 60L.

It is quick, pretty smooth, predictable, handles well, and has been a good vehicle.

The version I have is with a glass roof, which is fun at night.

Like the steering wheel with the stationary middle part and the level of standards you get with this car. It is a value for money vehicle.

I would purchase another Citroen; maybe the DS3.

Hello, I recently bought the 1.6L HDI C4 2006 Model. ESP/ASR fault comes on and the car loses power. Who is your best mechanic? I am in Melbourne. Thanks in advance.

2006 Citroen C4 VTR 1.4i 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An amazing car for someone who is getting their second car; nice to drive, fast and user friendly

Faults:

Absolutely nothing!

General Comments:

This car really surprised me going by the black marks Citroen supposedly get for reliability.

30k miles on the original tyres supplied with the car.

Engine might only be a 1.4 16v, but it pulls like a workhorse compared to a lot of 1.4 rivals I have tried.

The interior is very nicely finished, and the sports seats make the driving experience a pleasure, and very comfortable.

Only bad point is that it is quite a bulky car, so squeezing into smaller spaces can sometimes be a bit taxing.

2006 Citroen C4 Cool 1.6 diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Sold as new, but damaged in the factory

Faults:

Back end had been in a little accident, but the dealer claim they didn't know. Paint started to peel off and we ended up in a not-so-merry-go-round between dealer and Citroen UK.

Cruise control speeds up when you turn it off, making it very frightening. I would not have another one under any circumstances.

My view is they do not want their customers to buy from them a second time.

General Comments:

Rear view poor. Holds the road well. Paint falls off. Company don't want your custom.

2006 Citroen C4 Exclusive 2.0 HDI turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Dynamically good to drive, but very unreliable

Faults:

Initial problems with vibration at speed, linked to a fault with the alloy wheels. This took 3 visits to the dealer to rectify.

Various electronic problems with the car systems, starting with warnings for ESP system and Directional Headlight system faults.

Recent problems have been with the engine management system light coming on, and the car not accelerating properly.

The car has now been back to dealers in the garage 8 times for repeat faults. The engine management system has accounted for the last 5.

ECU and sensors have been replaced, but now the car is in back with the dealer to have the turbo changed.

General Comments:

The car has been great to drive and comfortable, but very unreliable. The dealers have struggled to sort out problems.

Maybe an EGR valve issue?
